Cincinnati: Spring Break Mission Trip

We’re excited to announce that for our 2012 spring break mission trip—March 17-24—we’ll be heading to Cincinnati, OH. Cincinnati is a city that has a lot of poverty as well as many other common urban issues. There will be great chances for us to serve the poor and minority communities.

What might we do?
  • Construction projects - such as painting, sheetrock, concrete work, yard clean-up, tree trimming, debris removal, etc.
  • Canvas neighborhoods & participate in prayer walks
  • Partner with local churches in need of manpower & enthusiasm
  • Random acts of God’s love (i.e., hot dog or bottled water giveaways)
  • Park ministry - play with kids and/or host events in local parks
  • Visit nursing/disabled home
We will be working with former Solid Rock youth volunteers Nathan & Kayla Traver. Nathan & Kayla work as youth ministers at Highview Christian Church. They are also on staff with the missions organization Team Expansion which has a team of workers in Cincinnati which they call Hope Inner City (http://www.hopeinnercity.org/).

Who can go? - This trip is designed for high school students. Please pray about the opportunity to go on this trip. Mission trips are different than other trips we take as a youth ministry. We consider it to be a commitment that you make. Yes, it’s fun and you will make tons of memories, but the focus is 100% on serving others. We’re not there for us. We’re there for God and the people we are serving.

How do I sign up? - If you and your parents decide to pursue this opportunity, download the permission form here, fill it out, and turn it in along with your $50 deposit to Josh Nelson by February 12th. After February 12th, you will be assessed a $25 late fee. Your deposit is non-refundable and reserves your spot on the trip.

How much does it cost? - The total cost for the trip will be $100 (you’ll pay an additional $50 after the deposit: $50 + $50 = $100! [total cost = $125 if signed up after Feb. 12th]). If writing a check, please make it out to UCC with “youth mission trip” in the memo line. In addition, you will also need to cover the cost of 6 fast food meals during travel. You’ll also be asked to make an investment of working during our annual Valentine Taste-Around dinner on the evening of February 12th. This fundraiser helps make your costs much less!
